Blackbird red beak (1 Viewer)

BOSWELL

Hi all, I visited a friend today in Carlisle, and a bird caught my eye as rather unusual, can you help? It looked like a Ring Ouzel, but it's beak was a noticeable red colour. Is it an Atlantic stray?

Hi Boswell,

Welcome to Birdforum.

You didn't put what size bird it is. The first ones that sprang to mind were a Chough. But I am not sure if they have them in Carlisle as they are just small areas of the UK that have them...Here is a link to our database picture.

The second was an Oystercatcher, they are wading birds but seem to get in all sorts of places. Here is a link to that ........http://www.birdforum.net/bird_view.php?bid=2958

Sorry, was in a rush for work, it was blackbird sized, I am quite experienced, and it has me baffled. I had no optics with me, but it seemed a litte dumpier/fatter than a blackbird, but had the noticeable pale throat and a definite red beak, it has been calling at the bird feeder for a few days I believe.

My bird is a Ring Ouzel. probably off course on migration, but hanging round the bird feeder. it must have had a berry in it's beak, as I said I had no optics with me. Will check it out properly tomorrow if possible.
