Birds on Pub signs (1 Viewer)

not sure if this is the right place for this.....

whilst on holiday I noted how often Birds appear on pub signs
e.g the White Swan, the cock etc

but what is the most birder like sign you've come across?
Whilst in Blandford Forum I came across a pib called
"The Three Choughs"

The most famous in the birding community is 'The Dotterel' on the road to Flamborough Head, near Bridlington.

There's a 'The Blackcock' at Falstone and a 'The Pheasant' at Stannersburn (within a mile of each other) in Northumberland

I know "The Kingfisher" in Poynton, Cheshire. Changed its name to something ridiculous a few years ago but the Cheshire Set revolted and it reverted to the Kingfisher.

As for Pete and his "pib"...sounds like he's a New Zealander. My good Kiwi friend here insists on calling me "Id" so perhaps it's part of the same malady.

There's a place in Cley called "The Harnser", is this an old fashioned name for a particular bird?

I wish the U.S. had pubs with colorful and quirky names like in England. I might even start drinking again.

My sister and her husband are arriving this evening for a visit--she married a Welsh man and they live in the London area (the address is in Surrey, not that that means anything to me). I only see her about every 3-4 years, and I'm waiting to see how much more "English" her mannerisms are. Even when I speak to her on the phone, she sounds more English every time.

Birds on pub signs

In a village to the north of Peterborough in north Cambridgeshire there is a pub called 'The Ruddy Duck'.

Locally we have -

The 'Golden Eagle' at Thornaby
The 'Teal Arms' at Ingleby Barwick
The 'Kingfisher' at Hemlington
The 'Merlin' in Billingham
The 'Moorcock Inn' Garsdale
The 'Swan' in Billingham
The 'Black Swan' A19
The 'Eagle' at Eaglescliffe

to name but a few !

The Curlew
The Sandpiper
The Blonde crested Woodpecker
The Ostritch
The Three swallows

spot the lie.........."well, it's on my list!"

There used to be a liscenced eaterie called the capercailie at three legged cross, where my late Father decided to have Whitebait for starter, followed by his usual steak, but the size of whitebait portion totally defeated him, as that was all he could manage, and the rest of us had to wait until he'd finished before we could have our main course, I'd just met my Husband then, Funny the things you remember when memories get triggered, that was more than 25 years ago..... Nina.

Here in the Nottingham area we have:-

The Cuckoo Bush
The Eagle
The Larks Nest
The Magpies
The Old Dog & Partridge
The Old Peacock
The Pelican
The Pheasant Inn
The Rat & Parrot
The Raven Inn
The Rubber Duck
The White Swan
The Woodlark

Cheers
B :)

Where exactly Chris? I think I ought to visit it before someone shoots it.
