Seventy nine eh!!! Nice one pal, that'll teach me to have a day off. The first migrants as well, can't be bad:t:

Perhaps you should have more days off ;)

I HAD TO HAVE A DAY OFF WORK YESTERDAY AS MY WIFE WAS TAKEN INTO HOSPITAL ON SUN NIGHT WITH AN ASTHMA ATTACK ,WHATS THAT GOT TO DO WITH BIRDS I HEAR YOU ASK ,WELL I WENT OUTSIDE EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING AND CROSSED THE ROAD FROM A AND E AND STOOD WITH MY BACK AGAINST THE RAILINGS AT THE HOUSE ACROSS THE ROAD THE BIG ONE I THINK THEY ARE FLATS AND I NOTICED A SMALL BIRD IN THE TREE NOT SURE WHAT IT WAS I STOOD VERY STILL AS IT GOT LOWER AND LOWER UNTIL IT WAS ONLY THREE FEET FROM MY FACE OBLIVIOUS TO ME
TO MY SURPRISE IT WAS AN ABSOLUTELY LOVELY FEMALE GOLDCREST I HAVE ONLY SEEN A FEW OF THESE BIRDS BUT EVEN ON A BAD DAY BIRDING CAN PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE,AND THE WIFE IS GETTING BETTER AS WELL:t:

Great story Kev, just goes to show what can turn up, and it's good that it cheered you up a little, hope the wife makes a fast recovery mate. Neil.
Hope this cheers you up.

Large numbers of Green-finches in the spring field area of Adderleygreen,i had large numbers about a month ago and the numbers dipped now the have built up again, i know there is concern about there decline and it is probably a localized thing, it is nice to see them back on the feeders had over 20 this afternoon for a short while on the feeders.Stu

It's good to see the gp's back in good numbers on stan mat way, noticed them real close to the road the other day as I drove past... The highest count I got last winter was 326 on the 17/12/09.

Westport, 9 til 11, first 2 Chiffchaffs of the year, not much else of note except for 3 Goosanders, Nick had the better of things early doors with 6 Shoveler and a single Wigeon as well as the 2 Chiffchaffs.

High Tide

Out of interest..... there's a high 10m+ tide on the Dee estuary/wirral this coming sunday morn. It can be a superb spectacle, if with the the help of a southerly breeze, the water covers the saltmarsh and brings everything in close.(especially viewing from Parkgate, old baths car park).

( I know it's not Staffordshire, but it is our nearest bit of coastline for us land locked birders!:-O )

cheers

Rob
