Anyone ever go birding at Redmires in Sheffield?

I wondered if anyone had any tips on best parts of the area/times etc?

No, i'm afraid i have never been there, but i would be interested in going. Where abouts is it from the centre of Sheffield. I can't find it on a map.

Is it west of the centre of Sheffield and north, east from Hathersage?

It's pretty grim, though the Moorlands surrounding the area can be rewarding in spring.

It's past Lodge Moor which is about 5 miles from the city centre at the south west of the city (and in the direction of Hathersage).

It can be rewarding - but also it can be devoid of all bird life!

So don't you get many birds there then?

It's a bit of a lottery, Anna. I have been there and not seen a thing, but on other occassions it's been really rewarding. I've seen great gull falls in bad weather and the summer can be good for displaying grouse. Probably the best time is Spring, though. It is a great migration watch point - especially when you sit on the "camel humps" early in the morning (and you get good views of the sunrise). It's near my local patch, but a little too far to walk to regually, so I tend not to get there as often as I'd like.
Overall, I'd say it's generally worth checking out; but your list will be better served birding around Ogston, from what I hear!
