What are other users opinions on the different bird news services. Please could people just give a one word answer saying what they use. At the moment I use Birdguides but am thinking of switching to Rare Bird Alert when my subscription runs out.

Rare Bird Alert. Useless at Porthgwarra last Friday though, I should have had the forsight to arrange the RBA Text Service for the day for Cornwall. When you are birding where reception is poor or non existant the Text Service is an excellent addition. Roger

This works for me, with the Vodaphone 'local birding contacts' enhancement - I love my mobile. Hello! magazine, and the word 'seriously' cannot go in the same sentence, so take Andrew's reply with a pinch of salt.

Don't suppose this facetious tripe was what you were looking for. Sorry - it's late.....

Had a Birdnet Pager for the last ten years, service is good and see the Mega news as soon as possible, unlike the RBA pager.
The only minor point, I have against the Birdnet pager is that it doesn't have a local bird channel. But usually you hear about local rarities from the local bird community before the news gets on the pager any way.
Cheers,
Dave Gray. :t:

personally I use Birdguides website for bird info, works well enough for me. I looked into pagers a while back but couldn't justify the cost...

I have used the free 7 day subscription on Rare Bird Alert before. It was quite good. Interesting to see whats about, and it may have influenced where I went, but I live in Norfolk, so wherever I decide to go Ill probably be more than happy with what I find. I dont really get very excited about seeing a bird that I know is going to be present before I get somewhere. Much rather find my own. Anyway, if something really rare shows up, its usually posted on here. Also, theres no way I could afford it.

So, I dont use any.

Jason

Birdguides website for me too, I check it the night before a birding trip & decide where to go (South / South East England). Apart from the sightings info the site also contains excellent ID & other birding articles.

John.
