Best place to catch starling murmurations near Hertfordshire? (1 Viewer)

The murmuration at Brighton was still performing well as of Saturday. It was good to see that a large portion of the pier's footfall stopped to enjoy the sight.

The general consensus appears to be that murmurations are unlikely to continue much beyond February, but given how well they still seem to be doing in some locations this year, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Brighton is a bit far for me (185 miles round trip) but if come Saturday the weather looks really promising and there's a reasonable prospect of a show, I might just be tempted.

Not looking good for the weekend; Wet Saturday, Sunday wet for sunset and a bit windy. Otherwise I'd probably have gone back.

Inclined to conclude that's probably it for this winter, so now it's roll on Autumn, I'm hooked!

If you didn't do the trip today you'll wish you had done! A quality blue-red sunset and still a large flock of starlings putting on a show.

Wow - thanks! That was a brilliant display and a brilliant video. Too right I wish I'd been there.

Am I right in assuming they roost under the pier?

Have heard before that one of the reasons they keep meandering around in the sky like that is because they are trying to suss out the best place to roost for the night. Since at Brigton they are flying over the sea the whole time that theory doesn't seem to - er - hold much water. In fact it seems to blow it right out of the water :-O
