Bare-faced go-away bird (1 Viewer)

Quercus

homo sarkensis
I see from the updates to OPUS that there's a bird called the "Bare-faced go-away bird"

All I can say is... "I'm speechless!"

I need to know more details!.... why? where? what?

The Grey Lourie, or Grey Go-Away-Bird, is common as muck in South Africa and apparently so called due to its annoying habit of making a very loud alarm call, while sitting above your head in a bush, to ensure all the other birds leg it. It sounds a bit like "Go-Away", and clearly means as much.

Go-away-birds are in the same family at Turacos (Musophagidae. There are actually three species called "go-away-bird". The Bare-faced and White-bellied can both be seen in Kenya and Tanzania. For the Grey Go-away-bird you need to go a bit further south.
They are pretty cool birds (definately a great name) but I think the other turacos are much more stunning to look at!

Cheers,
Benji

Hi Quercus
I just come back from Africa and saw 'Go Away Bird's' almost everyday and what a great bird it is.
