baby swallow blind? (1 Viewer)

Hi , I found a baby swallow one week ago. It had a reasonable amount of feathers. The nest was at the top of the barn and I was unable to return it to its nest or make a makeshift one. I took it home and it appears to be thriving. (I have given it crushed flys, wax worms and meal worms). My one concern is it is able to fly short distances, however, its eyes dont appear to have opened or even visible. It appears to be fully feathered. How old are swallows when their eyes open? Could this one be blind?

Update on blind swallow

Percy and I visited our avian vet today and she stated that Percy was without eyes. This apparently is a genetic disorder. However she stated that he appeared happy and she did not think euthinasia was the answer. We are monitering him to see how he manages.
Thankyou to all of you who viewed my post

hi i have a baby swallow that can fly a little what should i feed it???

Welcome to the forum.

They are insect eaters so mashed up flies etc, the adults feed on the wing.
How have you managed to obtain the youngster, fallen from a nest?

Percy has live meal worms (small), wax worms and I also use 'Zoo Med Leapard Gecko Food', which is dried flies .I add water and mash them up. I am Now trying to teach him to peck as he will never be able to catch flies 'on the wing'. If you baby is flying about he will be soon ready to join his flock and learn to feed himself.
