Anyone else like Birds AND planes? (1 Viewer)

And a BAC/ English Electric Lightning behind it (I think).
No that is a MIG 21.
The Finns used those .

At lunchtime I saw the British Airways ‘BEA’ retro livery come in. I would have gone to my usual spot at Lennymuir Bridge were I go plane watching to get better photos but as it was wet this morning I decided not to regretting it now as it stopped raining always next time.

A pretty quiet watch at my nearest wetland, but did notice a tight group of 3 F-16’s heading over, they circled Mildenhall a few times. Another group of 2 close behind.

Tail markings suggest they are from Arvino, presumably on some sort of training mission.

Apart from the ubiquitous KC-135 Stratotankers, a couple of passes by C-130 Hercules was nice.

My parents have been emptying out the attic, and unearthed this. It's missing the rules, so as a long shot I thought I'd pop on here and see if any of you aircraft mavens can help. Cheers.

Crikey. A quick look indicates the transport is a Bristol Bombay, the Lysander is classified as reconnaissance (not liaison or special ops!) and the bomber is an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley: so the game dates from between 1937 and 1940 at the latest. I'll nick the pic and have an inquire elsewhere if that's OK but I should think the RAF Museum or Air Historical Branch (if the latter still exists) would be the best bet.

Remarkable. I look forward to the next series of Antiques Roadshow!

My fellow hobbyists in "the other place" came up with the following:

1. "An interesting find...

Believe it or not, the company is still going to this day, with the name shortened to Gibsons!

Wikipedia mentions your Aviation one as being a variant (aerial version of L'Attaque).
Gibsons Games - Wikipedia

It would do no harm to contact them directly to see if they hold copies of the rules given that they are still producing board games:

Gibsons Games - Jigsaws, Puzzles and Games for All Ages"

2. "With a quick search, I was able to find the following pages:
https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/807292 ... -the-rules

https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/4988 ... onrulesdoc
You need to sign in to download the rules.

See also interesting information here: https://www.gamesboard.org.uk/cgi-pub/g ... mmand=view and here:https://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O263 ... son-games/.

This game is indeed a variant of a famous french game "L'attaque", now know as "Stratego"."

They and I hope this is helpful and I volunteered to pass back any subsequent message.

Cheers

John

Found a Great White Egret in an unusual spot locally today, they can be common where you get them and decidedly scarce where you don’t. Anyway, decided to try and get a shot of it, but was interrupted by a close knit group of fighters approaching RAF Lakenheath, so I snapped them instead.

2 F-15’s and 2 F-35’s.

Today I was birding down on the South Lakes coast. Heard a low plane, had a look, it was a Spitfire. Found it on the Flightradar app, it was a two seat trainer flying out of Blackpool. It had done 3 flights that morning, out over the Lakes or the Yorkshire Dales. I thought it might be a "fly in a Spitfire", pleasure flight. Had a look online line and found it was, and the cost of ½ hour flying around in a Spitfire...

£3,250!

The Collings Foundation has the world’s only dual control P-51C Mustang and used to give rides for around that price. I have a video of their fly-by's but I don't know how to post it.

They would come to our municipal airport along with their B-24 and B-17 and give rides along with much cheaper ground tours. We went over whenever they were in the area, around 5 times I think, but I never thought that a ride was a good use of my money. Ground tours though the B-24 and B-17 were well worth it though.

Sadly the B-17 crashed and was a total loss a few years ago. I think that FAA has put a stop to their paid passenger rides on their other operational airplanes after that crash.
