Very true. I think most serious ornithologists have said good bye to the pure biological species concept, though. An interesting read to this theme is in the introducing chapters of Shirihai/Svensson, Handbook of WP Passerines.
I like Svensson approach generally speaking, but I don't think we have to reject totally the biological species concept neither (what he doesn't do AFAIK) ; in opposite, I don't like too much Shirihai's way of studying bird. In all cases, using several points of view would enlarge our understanding.
