Another red-tailed hawk? Texas. April (1 Viewer)

I believe this to be a RT Hawk but would welcolm confirmation. Pictures taken at dusk so quality is quite poor

I believe it is a Swainson's Hawk. Notice how the front part of the underwings is lighter in color than the rear portion. And the white throat with the dark patches on the sides of the throat. Also there are no pategial bars on the leading edge of the wings, nor is there a belly band which are characteristics of a Red-tailed Hawk.

Looks good for Swainson's Hawk. One feature I have noticed on birds more difficult to distinguish is that the 5th primary (from outside) is shorter than the fourth in Swainson's, about even in Red-tailed (giving Swainson's a more pointy-winged look). [by formal count from the inside out, these are actually the 6th and 7th primaries (for 5th and fourth from the outside in, respectively)]
