American In Lithuania (1 Viewer)

Hello everybody! I am a rookie birder (only been into it for 6 months or so) and have started to get more interested in it as a hobby. I've memorized and spotted pretty much every common bird in the part of the US I'm from, as well as a few more uncommon ones.

However, I've just moved to Lithuania for the foreseeable future. Exciting as it is in many ways, I was so invested in my North American birds that I hadn't studied up on my European ones!

I moved here around a week ago, and I've already spotted about 15 new species, a nice little dopamine rush for a guy like me.

Anyways, if anybody here is from or familiar with Lithuania, I'd love to hear about some of the best birding spots.

Hi LB and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. You might try posting in this forum for help:

Kaunas actually. Was only in Vilnius for the airport lol
Kaunas offers some of the best winter birding in Lithuania, particularly below the HES on the river, but also along the whole of the Nemunas through the city.

As we approach spring and on into summer, Išlaužas fish pools are not far south of Kaunas (Prienų region) and can be the best birding. Otherwise, general forest/open country birding is good anywhere north of Kaunas towards Kėdainiai etc. In another three weeks or so, Lesser Spotted Eagle etc will be fairly common.

Thank you for the info! I'll be sure to check them out and report back what I find.
