Alberta Bird Cooing at night? (1 Viewer)

Last night I heard from my window something like an owl that you would hear for a spooky Halloween soundtrack. I really want to know what it is, and I hope it's an owl because I've only ever seen one here in the wild before. I live in Alberta, around 11:30 pm last night I heard a low, soft, cooing that went like 'who-who-who, who, whro'. It sounded very, very similar to the Great Horned Owl, but it was somewhat slower sounding and the syllables were slightly different. I also heard a higher pitched whoing in the same pattern, responding to the other one. Does anyone have an idea what the birds making these sounds are? I really want to know because I've never heard anything like it before (I hope they aren't pigeons haha)

Thank you!

It most likely is an Owl. The best thing you can do is to do a google search for "wav files for owls in Canada" exactly as I have typed it. ;) Please check back and let us know what you believe it to be ;)

BTW. a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum. :t:

After listening to many owl calls, the only one even close to matching was the Great Horned Owl! Does that mean that they live nearby now and I might see one? :D so exciting!
