window feeder

  1. How do I get at it?

How do I get at it?

The wee birds are playing hard to get just now, this picture from a couple of days ago. Pray for some nice weather over the weekend, I'm hoping to go on a Waxwing hunt! Its a couple of years since I've seen any.
  2. Blue Tit on a duck pond

Blue Tit on a duck pond

I knew a Blue Tit would be the first to risk the newly repaired feeder.... all covered in duck;) tape as per Stanley's suggestion. If you look closely you can see one of the cracks on the bottom right.
  3. Busy feeders

    Busy feeders

Gosh... I've never seen something on all three feeders at the same time - this was the only picture I managed to get as the next second two of them had gone. I think the vandals (Starlings) were in mob-handed before I got up this morning and I found the tray one on the ground - the string...
  4. Coal Tit

    Coal Tit

I thought, for a minute, he was going to have a bath, but no such luck... in and out he was. But oh, how lovely it is to see these guys appearing more regularly. The other morning when I pulled the blinds open there were two of them at the feeder. TTTW
  5. Great Tit

    Great Tit

Sorry the quality of this one isn't great, and it looks like I needed to have cleaned the window too. Great Tits are very occasional visitors to my window feeder, once, maybe twice a year, so I was really quite lucky to grab anything at all. Record shot. TTTW
  6. Where have they gone?

    Where have they gone?

For a little while I had birds all over the feeders, but I wasn't quick enough to get them all, there was so much coming and going. I caught this one on the peanuts though and rather liked his face. Very often they're completely hidden behind the feeder!
  7. Blue Tit

    Blue Tit

My hard drive is in hospital now (well the local computer shop). He'll look at it to see if it can be repaired. Fingers crossed time folks. This particular day was very busy at the window feeders and this Bluey was constantly back and fro and brought some friends with him at times too.
  8. Gotcha!

    Gotcha!

A HOSP on the feeder at last and it's a female (I think - maybe a youngster). This is strange, as the females hadn't been anywhere near, to my knowledge, prior to this.
  9. Hope he doesn't get any heavier

Hope he doesn't get any heavier

I've not had much to show you of the birds coming to the window feeder, as it's been rather quiet on that front for ages. One of the blackbirds with a white patch on his back came and devoured all the meal worms and most of the peanut butter on the window ledge then jumped up onto the feeder...
  10. Then a Great Tit came

    Then a Great Tit came

I only managed a couple of shots of the Coal Tit but shortly after a Great Tit appeared, now I don't think I've seen one for about a year and was beginning to think I'd hallucinated them LOL. It was so nice to see him back though and he really seemed to enjoy both the fat ball and the peanuts...
  11. Is this OK to eat Mum

Is this OK to eat Mum

On my return from Wales, the Resource Centre garden was full of young birds, mostly Blue Tits and Blackbirds. Did they come to my feeder... oh no! Even though I opened the window and told them I was back, putting out lots of juicy mealworms etc. Later in the day a young BT came and pecked at...
  12. Another wanderer returns

    Another wanderer returns

I've not seen this Blackbird for quite a few weeks; but back he comes and tucks into the peanut butter as if he'd never been away.
  13. Strangers Return

    Strangers Return

At last! A male House Sparrow, who has been investigating the feeders on and off the last few weeks, but never seemed brave enough to land, came in a few times today and went off with a meal worm. I wonder if that will tempt some of the others to come now?
  14. Bluey's not too sure about this

Bluey's not too sure about this

I decided to move the fat ball and, as you can see it's now hanging just above the otter ornament. This Blue Tit has a few little pecks around the peanuts too. I seem to have got rid of the 'vandals' by moving to the window when they appeared, or taking the feed tray in. They've food on the...
  15. Why couldn't it use the perch??

Why couldn't it use the perch??

So I got my self a new feeder - for peanuts this time! It'd not been there long when a Blue Tit decided to investigate, and made several visits, but would it/they sit on one of the perches. The feeder swings a lot, so getting sharp pictures might prove a bit tricky LOL. There might be a new...
  16. Feed Me!

    Feed Me!

Well, at least I presume it's a fledgling doing the wing fluttering feed me act! A lot of flying backwards and forwards to the nest I showed you yesterday. I thought once they'd left that was it. Edit: Huh! of course that isn't a baby, as per Chris's comment! Didn't have my thinking hat on. So...
  17. The Dribbler

    The Dribbler

This is how the window gets covered in droplets! I'm sure no-one believed me and just thought I had dirty windows;)
  18. I've bent me ciggy

    I've bent me ciggy

The birds were desperate for their mealworms this morning. They were diving in before I'd shut the window. The good news is that a House Sparrow has ventured up to the window sill today a couple of times, so it probably won't be long now till he finds the feeder proper. Couldn't resist showing...
  19. Robin at feeder

    Robin at feeder

The Robin has been making constant visits the last few days and going off with beakfulls of meal worms. It's looking like he's got a nest of youngsters somewhere. The Coal Tit hasn't been back for a bath for 2 days now. And I still find it odd that none of the other tits avail themselves of...
  20. Aaargh I dropped it!

    Aaargh I dropped it!

The water bath has a small flat-topped stone at the edge where I put a few meal worms. The Blue Tit had obviously knocked one off and was trying to retrieve it. This is one of the pictures I 'lost' the other day when I'd forgotten to put the card in - Chris kindly put me on the right road to...
  21. But sometimes there's a big one

But sometimes there's a big one

Previously the Blackbird just balanced on my 2" wide window sill, to eat a few mealworms, seeds and peanut butter that I put there. The last few days though he's decided he likes what's in the feeder (exactly the same stuff LOL) and sometimes gets right in. I rather like this shot from...
  22. And sometimes there's two

    And sometimes there's two

A couple of days ago two Blue Tits landed on the feeder and it looked like one was feeding the other - it only lasted a second and I didn't get a picture. But here they are on top of the bath, but it looks more like they're having an argument. I was quite pleased to catch the moment.
  23. Bluey having a drink (or had one)

Bluey having a drink (or had one)

Well, the Coal Tit returned (about 3 times) and really had a lovely bath each time. He soaked the window so photos becamed increasingly blurred, but I got some good ones to start with. Then I got Memory Full... er... I'd forgotten to put the card in and I can't retrieve them (no download cable)...
  24. Blue Tit on window feeder

    Blue Tit on window feeder

Well this should put a stop to KC nagging me:-O ***f8**** AP. 1/50 sec 0 EV For those of you that understand these things - which I don't really. Anyway it was very bright and sunny, and he'd just grabbed a mealworm out of the water. It was a shame this morning - the first Coal Tit for...
  25. Blue Tit on window feeder

    Blue Tit on window feeder

This is the first picture that I've taken on a Manual setting (I usually always shoot on Auto or Landscape mode) and it's heavily cropped too. Settings were: 1/1000 sec, F/4.5 and ISO 400. It's through glass of course and I only have a short window of time to do it before the sun comes round...
