  1. Waders and friends on the beach

Waders and friends on the beach

After admiring the Pipit, June and I went and sat in the hide for a bit. As the birds were a bit distant I took a more general picture of a largish group out on a sandbar. Mainly I can pick out Australian Ibis, Great Crested Tern, Silver Gull, White-faced Heron. I also recorded Grey Plover...
  2. Ibis galore

    Ibis galore

We'd now made our way to the other side of Albany and looked in at Seppings Pond, a longish pond and this was a rather overgrown end. On the far bank were loads, and I mean loads of Ibis. Both species, Straw-necked and Australian. This was the first time I'd seen both species together. Can you...
  3. White and white but different

    White and white but different

The following morning found June and myself back in the hide before breakfast again. We saw an Ibis in front of one of the houses on our way down, but thought I'd show you one combined in a picture with a White-faced Heron, the first one I'd seen here so far; they seemed to be everywhere in...
  4. Scavengers

    Scavengers

A bit easier to see were these two Australian Ibis... they do rather stand out, don't they LOL
  5. Dribbler

    Dribbler

Walking along the path, on the 'sea' side of it is a long lagoon and in there I found this Ibis. This was the closest I'd been to one, before that I thought their tails were all black but they seem to be barred. Two shots after this his head was buried in the water LOL
  6. Another b/w one

    Another b/w one

... well it is mostly white of course. We were making our way back down the Austinville valley and came to a pond which I'm told is called.... wait for it..... (cover your ears if you're sensitive);) Pisspot!!! I may upload a picture of it at some point. Anyway... there was an Australian...
  7. Two litter pickers

    Two litter pickers

Underneath where the Darter and Egret was were a few Ibis; just showing you two of them though.
  8. Litter picker

    Litter picker

These Ibis aren't too popular with some people for their habit of collecting our waste, but I think they probably do a good job of clearing up our mess. This guy was around the picnic area of the Hinterland Park and came really rather close to us.
  9. Dustbin

    Dustbin

Some people don't like Ibis, as they raid their dustbins etc. However, this guy is doing what he was evolved to do.... forage in wetland areas.
  10. Waterbird city

    Waterbird city

You need to look closely, but there's quite a lot of cormorants roosting in the trees. I think they're mostly Little Pied Cormorants with a Little Black Cormorant near the Ibis on the water. We'd got back to what I called the 'Jacana' Lake, as the lily pads with the Jacana are at the far end. I...
  11. Pole walker

    Pole walker

An Ibis sidled along a fallen branch in order to find just the right spot to get a drink!
  12. One of the big 'uns

    One of the big 'uns

... and a black and white bird that likes to be in wet mud LOL. How do they keep themselves so clean eh?
  13. Three different water birds

    Three different water birds

Coot, Ibis and Whistling Ducks... pretty cool eh?
  14. Putting on a pose

    Putting on a pose

Down by the lake, an Ibis was doing his best ballerina pose (at least that's what it reminds me of LOL).
  15. Black and white but curved

    Black and white but curved

Got quite close to these Ibis, they seem quite unconcerned about people, I suppose because so many walk across to King Island at low tide.
  16. Australian White Ibis

    Australian White Ibis

A bird which has achieved 'plague' proportions in some places.
  17. Australian White Ibis

    Australian White Ibis

A common bird which is a pest in some places! Very well adapted to urban environments.
  18. Australian White Ibis

    Australian White Ibis

It's interesting that the Australian White Ibis used to be lumped together with the Sacred Ibis, the next posting, yet clearly there are distinct differences.
  19. Australian White Ibis

    Australian White Ibis

Seen all around the Adelaide area.
  20. Ibis on the roof

    Ibis on the roof

Australian White Ibis Waiting patiently for me to feed the Magpies and Mudlarks so that they can steal all the food. I always give them some for themselves, but as one of these birds can put away almost a kilo of minced meat, nobody else's lunch is safe while they're about. They make up for it...

    Australian White Ibis

This guy flew up from behind mangrove trees and over my head while spotting along the edge of the sewerage ponds. Palmerston Sewage ponds is always good for spotting. It is about a 4 kilometre walk along the edge of open woodland, dense mangrove and the ponds own special 'habitat'.
