  1. Thirsty

    Thirsty

As soon as Hans had filled the water bowls a Magpie-Lark descended. They'd obviously been missing us LOL This is the female
  2. A welcome home

    A welcome home

The first bird I spotted in the garden after our trip to the Gold Coast was this lovely Double-barred Finch. I really grew so fond of these guys.
  3. "Raindrops keep falling....

    "Raindrops keep falling....

... on my head" A beautiful Australian King Parrot was getting soaked in the torrential downpour. We had several of these overnight and that morning... thunderous rain. But quite a relief in view of the devastating bush fires and the low water levels. Saturday Fun
  4. Bon voyage

    Bon voyage

We were only home for a day after the extraordinary visit to Bowra, when we were off again on another adventure to the Gold Coast. An Australian King Parrot was out in the early morning sun to wish us farewell as we packed the car.
  5. End of the day

    End of the day

The sun setting, and with the light failing fast I wanted another wander around the grounds before bed. A pair of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, had joined a group of Maned Ducks in the front garden; here they are with one of the females.
  6. Very colourful

    Very colourful

The Rainbow Lorikeet was really enjoying the sun after all the rain we'd had that morning. Colourful, isn't he.
  7. Hallowed

    Hallowed

Later on the clouds moved away leaving beautiful clear blue skies. Tempting me out for another wander around the grounds. Then I spotted a gorgeous Sacred Kingfisher on an overhead wire. For once getting the exposure just about right!
  8. Shy

    Shy

There was also a male Superb Farywren around, but more of a skulker as he didn't really emerge from the shrubs and was only in view for a few seconds. Such pretty wee birds and the reason for my invite to stay with Hans and Judy.
  9. Pretty lady

    Pretty lady

There were a pair of Superb Fairywrens nesting in Hans and Judy's garden, this is the female who emerged in a break between the downpours.
  10. With a companion

    With a companion

The rain came on again, but it didn't stop this Brown Honeyeater coming in for a drink and it looks like a spider had joined him!!
  11. Lovable

    Lovable

Back in the garden some Double-barred Finches had come in. These are really delightful wee birds; they look like little mice as they scurry around. Really small for finches.
  12. Unsure

    Unsure

The rain hadn't yet greened things up much, but this young Australian Magpie didn't seem to mind, think he was just relieved to have had some rain!
  13. At the water's edge

    At the water's edge

Eventually the torrential rain eased up, so I had a wander round the grounds to see what was new since our trip to Bowra. The dam that Hans had dug out was quite a bit fuller than it had been 5 days before. A Magpie-Lark was looking for food there.
  14. Ol' Golden Eye

    Ol' Golden Eye

A Pied Currawong was sitting on the fence, unsure whether to brave the flight down to the garden, joining the other birds in a feeding frenzy!
  15. Identical twins

    Identical twins

Along with the King Parrot were some Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. I managed to get these two isolated from the group.
  16. Quite regal

    Quite regal

Although we'd done the outward journey to Bowra in two days, we did the return in one long session. We left temperatures of circa 40C but as we climbed the Bunya Mountains encountered first rain.... which then turned to snow!!! There had been some rain while we were away which has mostly...
  17. The last for now

    The last for now

A male Regent Bowerbird was the last species I photographed on this first visit to Hans' waterhole. But I was back there a few more times.
  18. Thirsty

    Thirsty

As the sun went down I had a last look around the grounds. A Torresian Crow was having a drink beside the front drive, What a striking eye he has, doesn't he. And I thought the blue flowers made for a nice backdrop too.
  19. Maggie with company

    Maggie with company

An Australian Magpie was another species attracted to Hans' garden, here he is with one of the many Rainbow Lorikeets that visited too.
  20. What's going on over there?

    What's going on over there?

.... I couldn't see, it was behind the hedge, but something had startled this Blue-faced Honeyeater!
  21. One Disciple

    One Disciple

I'd long wanted to see these Apostlebirds, just to check whether they really did come in dozens. My first sighting though was just a singleton.
  22. B& White in flight

    B& White in flight

Another new species for me was the White-winged Chough when about half a dozen popped into the garden for a feed. Something spooked them and the Rainbow Lorikeets as they all took off. TTTW
  23. A nice view from the back too

A nice view from the back too

There don't seem to be as many pictures around of the rear view of a Double-barred Finch, so I thought this one was worth showing.
  24. Lori

    Lori

So many different species come in to feed and Hans seemed to be very busy all the time topping up the food and water for them!! This is a Rainbow Lorikeet, quite endearing little parrots,
  25. I used to use blue eyeshadow...

I used to use blue eyeshadow...

..... but think it looks much nicer on the tiny Peaceful Dove. It's difficult to assess the size of birds in pictures, but this guy is small for a dove, not even as big as our Blackbird! Little charmers, though.
