    Better not go fishing

A couple of weekends ago we decided to go up to Glenshee to see if, for once, I could get a glimpse of Ptarmigan in their winter dress. But, as usual, as we climbed to the top the cloud was right down to the road. Cup of coffee later, we changed tack and decided to take the long road home by a...

It was singing (making a noise) on the top of a tree - I don't think I've ever seen wagtails in a tree other than this one!

    Me and my shadow

Taken looking down from my third storey flat. This Pied Wagtail appeared just after our rubbish bins had been emptied, and was trotting about looking for any morsels that might have been dropped on the roadway. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John

That one about salt on a bird's tail? Nonsense! Snow doesn't work either.

    Tiptoe through the tulips

OK, so they're not tulips. They're scilla buds. But I couldn't help humming the tune as I watched this Waggie tiptoeing through.

I was walking along a sandy beach. It was moving about at the top of the beach and then perched on a stone ,maybe to have a better look at me.

    Steppin' out SF

Heavy crop in poor light: 1/160th at ISO 2000 hasn't quite frozen the right foot. It was a very pleasant surprise to see the bird feeding in the pool of rainwater on our electricity substation roof. Grey Wagtails have frequented the same place in the past, so my ambition is to get a shot of both...

    Pied Wagtail

Just to clarify what I said earlier: the species I normally get here at home is Grey Wagtail. This bird is a Pied Wagtail, the first I've seen (here at home, that is) in 37 years. Very pleasing. Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John

    Pied Wagtail

Thank you everyone for your very nice comments on my image of a peacock butterfly.Last time I went out birding, I took many shots of a wheatear foraging among the sea-wrack at the top of a beach. But there were other birds too, like this wagtail.
  25. On the Rocks

    On the Rocks

Further along the river, I managed to look down through a gap in the trees and suddenly a Pied Wagtail flew across and landed on a rock. Couldn't resist trying for that one LOL. A big crop though.
