  1. Keeping quiet

    Keeping quiet

.... so on my way back towards the hotel for breakfast I spotted this Noisy Miner in a tree. It seems ages since I'd last seen one too, but still managed to recognise him all on my own LOL. Mmmm.... breakfast was good. No wonder I put on so much weight while I was away!
  2. Grazers

    Grazers

After our cruise, we found our hotel for the night and had another wonderful meal in their dining room. I was awake early and wandered down to the riverside to see what was about, spending a minute or two watching a small ferry plying back and fro across the river. Why is this always such a...
  3. Every cloud

    Every cloud

Approaching our berth, a Silver Gull provided an escort for us. Trouble was I was so intent watching him, I was too slow to grab a picture of a Whiskered Tern that flew below me!!!! grrrr But at least I saw him! Lifers by the end of this day: 198
  4. Resting

    Resting

We finally moved on and had a cruise along the river, which was really very scenic. The banks in parts are lined with willow trees, which although look rather attractive, are an introduced and invasive species. They draw too much water out of the river systems, so they are now being grubbed...
  5. Yippee that's mine

    Yippee that's mine

Without knowing about it, I did try Ann's method of focusing on the chum.... but... well I'm much too slow!! However, I did get this Silver Gull going off with his prize catch. ... an another yippee... hairdressers open today in Scotland and I've an appointment in a few minutes!!
  6. In front of a Canoe Tree

In front of a Canoe Tree

Round the other side of the island, birds began to appear from all sides, particularly Whistling Kites and Silver Gulls. However, there was also a pesky speedboat with some youngsters aboard who came speeding round and round us. We sat tight and ignored them so they gave up in the end. The...
  7. Widespread

    Widespread

We moved downstream to the town of Mannum and after a lovely cafe lunch, made our way down to the river for the next adventure Peter had lined up for me. I found some Coots grazing the grass in front of a house, and here's just three of them.
  8. Sinuous

    Sinuous

On the far bank was a Darter, I think a juvenile, as it is so pale. I they're they're wonderful birds with their long sinuous necks, often held in a couple of twists!
  9. Swimmer

    Swimmer

After a while wandering the woodland, our necks had had enough, so we wandered down to the river bank. A few things about and here's a Pacific Black Duck paddling upstream (he'd initially been going downstream LOL).
  10. For once

    For once

... one a little lower down and a slightly better quality picture on that very dull morning. A dapper White-winged Triller and this was the first I'd seen since Bowra. I love them!!
  11. Wing stretching

    Wing stretching

Continuing our wander through this woodland beside the river again, high above my head, was a Pied Butcherbird and he put on a bit of a display for me, didn't he LOL
  12. Wait for me!

    Wait for me!

This was part of the group of Little Corellas we found on the outskirts of Peterborough on our way to Gluepot. As I started taking pictures, the one in the lead took off. The second suddenly noticed and off he went as well, obviously not wanting to be left behind!! Or maybe not trusting who...
  13. Framed

    Framed

Galahs always have to get in on the act, don't they. This on looks like he's checking me out to see what I'm up to LOL
  14. Little

    Little

We didn't have to move far for in the very next tree was this pretty Little Corella. I could see this was going to be one of those neck-breaking sessions, staring up into tall trees!
  15. Adelaide

    Adelaide

I get a bit lost with these Rosellas. Think I've got this right though. This is a Crimson Rosella, which at some point may be split off (and I think may already have been by some) as an Adelaide Rosella. It's yellow, where the Crimson is red, but not another potential split (Yellow Rosella)...
  16. After a wet....

    After a wet....

... and noisy night we woke to leaden skies in Barmera. But here's a Masked Lapwing looking at the Murray River. He looks a bit lonely, doesn't he.
  17. They have hackles

    They have hackles

The last bird picture from that remarkable session at Gluepot. A rather handsome white-eyed Australian Raven. And he's got a fine set of throat hackles, hasn't he LOL. Now Luis said it looked very dry there. Indeed it was there'd been a long, long drought. Peter told me that Gluepot got the...
  18. Junior

    Junior

I struggled to identify this one at first, but Peter kindly came to my rescue, when it became obvious. It's a juvenile Red Wattlebird. If you get your magnifying glass out you can just see the tiny buds of the wattles appearing.
  19. Wattles on show

    Wattles on show

Depending on the angle, I've sometimes found it difficult to see the wattles, but they do show clearly here I think. We'd barely been here an hour and already I'd seen a lot of different species, some of which I hadn't yet managed to get a picture of the action was so fast.
  20. A grey one

    A grey one

There'd been one of these at John & Dora's place on the Fleurieu peninsula, but I'd not got a good view nor a picture at that time. Here he's making sure I see him properly! That means I've now seen both of the Australian mainland Currawongs, having seen the Pied one in Brisbane with Ken...
  21. Supervising

    Supervising

A Galah had also arrived and sat in the tree for a few moments, seemingly checking out the activity at the water trough before deciding whether to join in or not.
  22. Two old friends

    Two old friends

I'd seen both these species before, but never in the same place, so never before got them in the same frame. You'd think there was enough room at the water trough for them to drink at the same time, wouldn't you.
  23. Following me around!!

    Following me around!!

We finally made it to Gluepot, parked the car and wandered round to the hide. There in front of us were some trees and below a long, narrow water trough..... and birds.... and more birds!! Flitting in and out landing on the trough, back to the trees. It was just non-stop activity and took me a...
  24. Junior

    Junior

After lunch at Port Morgan we then continued on to our main venue for the day Gluepot! Turning off the metalled road onto the dirt track, you're still faced with, I think, about 15 more miles into the outback, passing through another station. We'd only got to about the first gate when we...
