I had a day off work and took to the hills yesterday. It was a cool day with some watery sunshine around midday. The shot was taken when the sun had its best moment. I had forgotten the map, so I wandered about following bird calls and animal tracks. I spotted a black woodpecker, a few hares...

    The lone survivor

The only clear shot of a kite from an afternoon photographing kites. I was new to photography, it was a cloudy day, and I kept changing settings to find one that worked. On my way to Kinnordy I spotted this Red Kite - rather abandoned the car to get some pictures. Not the best of images but my best effort so far with this species.

On my way home from Kinnordy that day I spotted what I hoped was.... pulled the car over, jumped out; found it in the view finder and sure enough.... Red Kite!! Such beautiful fliers these. But pretty rare in this area still. Just managed to get him before he went behind the trees.

    Red Kite Resting (2)

I posted a picture of a Red Kite resting in a huge cherry tree in our neighbours' garden about 40m from our house. A second bird joined him (or her) yesterday. They have since been steady visitors and a very desirable watching object. As this pic is better than the one I posted a couple of days...
