Hobby landing
This bird flew around and above the hide for a couple of minutes checking out the swifts and swallows. I couldn't get a decent picture through the hide windows - it was just too fast and usually at too high an angle. I had been driving around some pools in Lithuania having had a good day. I was on my way out of the reserve when I came across this Juvenile Hobby on some wires. I stopped about 200 yards away, sure that it would take flight, but thankfully the bird stayed put allowing me a few shots of it.- Reader

Since I've discovered a family of hobbies, I fantasize about a close encounter. I've had one where a hobby was chasing a woodpigeon, probably for fun (the pigeon being too large a prey I think). Alerted by repeated 'ki ki ki ki' calls, I spotted this hobby at home in the top of an electricity pylon. A major lifer! An adult sitting on the highest point, a juvenile barely visible inside the construction. A few minutes later, the group of 4 or 5 hobbies flew to the next pylon, even further...- Erwin Driessens
