  1. Razorbill

    Razorbill

This one was a bit awkward, as he was above my head on the cliff. This, again, was the only picture where his head was in profile - the rest of them he turned his head away.
  2. Swimming Razorbill

    Swimming Razorbill

With the lovely sun, I can't understand why there's absolutely no sign of his eye on any of the pictures (different angles too)! Wonder if his eyes were still closed after swimming? .... not sure I really think that though. I think these are my favourite alcid after Puffins. But he didn't...
  3. Razorbill View

    Razorbill View

This is the view i had over the little inlet (really too small to be called a bay, I suppose). The Herring Gull was under the opposite rock face. There was plenty coming and going, and I just managed to get this Razorbill in the shot. I'd be looking just about due north with the main puffin...
  4. Razorbill and friend

    Razorbill and friend

He looks like a big daddy, doesn't he. I'd not realised there was such a difference in sizes between these guys. I'd walked along the cliff a bit by this time. Forgot to say earlier... but both these species are Year and Trip ticks
  5. Redshank

    Redshank

This Redshank was very interested in what might have been lurking in the sea weed. Strikes me it's a good job they've got sharp claws on their feet to give them a bit of grip on the steep-sided rocks LOL. Another trip tick.
  6. Hooded Crow

    Hooded Crow

The next day was spent exploring the town, getting information from the Tourist Information Office, Tesco etc, then a wander along the promenade. A nice relaxing day for Clive and Glen after their long journey from South Wales. Here's a Mo friend;). We don't get Hoodies over on the east side of...
  7. Redshank battle 3; the final round

Redshank battle 3; the final round

... after a bit more action on the bog bean, they moved into the water, with one almost being drowned!! There was quite a battle there until finally one beat a hasty reatreat
  8. Redshank battle 2

    Redshank battle 2

... from the previous picture, he landed on top of the other one and .... well was he 'necking' her or trying to strangle him?
  9. Redshank War 1

    Redshank War 1

Bit busy this morning so posting this early. After what looked like an amorous liaison between the two that I showed you yesterday, it then seemed to turn into a right royal battle. This is the first of three I'll show you today, which left me confused as to whether they were a pair or rivals...
  10. Redshank

    Redshank

.... of course it was spring and .... well... they were "at it"!! I got loads of pictures of these two, and it was quite difficult to decide which to post. Maybe there'll be more for you, we'll see.
  11. Redshank

    Redshank

It's hard to stay away from Kinnordy during April, there is so much going on there. A Redshank very kindly came close to the hide on this visit, and in lovely light too. They're usually way out on the bog bean islands and difficult to get decent shots of.
  12. Another splash of yellow

    Another splash of yellow

I couldn't leave this folder without showing you another picture of the gorgeous Yellowhammer - I get so few chances of photographing them these days. Not sure if I'll have time to post tomorrow as I'm off on my hols. We're supposed to have internet access there, so hopefully I'll be able to...
  13. Yellowhammer

    Yellowhammer

Back in 2013 I promised I would get a better picture of a 'hammer... it's taken a while, hasn't it!! I had a job to decide which of many pictures I took of this beauty to show you though, so there may be another before too long. This was taken around the feeding station area at Loch of the...
  14. Two of my favourites

    Two of my favourites

The Loch of the Lowes visitor centre has a large viewing window overlooking a feeding station. This was one of the first pictures I got when I sat down... not bad eh? You just have to love them both, don't you. TTTW
  15. Long-tailed Tit

    Long-tailed Tit

I tried, and tried and tried to get this picture... bingo!!! These wee guys did land on branches before diving for the feeders, but I generally wasn't quick enough to catch them. This one sat just where a shaft of light came through the trees. It's SNOWING!!!!
  16. Long-tailed Tit

    Long-tailed Tit

At long, long last i got a picture (a decent one) of a Long-tailed Tit. I've seen them no end of times, but they've always been moving fast through the trees, or I've just had a silhouette with the sun behind them. This was on a visit to Kinnordy in early February, when I met up with Andy...
  17. Snipe galore

    Snipe galore

Early November and Kinnordy had more Snipe than I've ever seen there before - I think someone counted over 100, which means there were probably many more in hiding. This is just a small sample of them with some friends. They were on one of the bog bean islands, so a little distant for a small...
  18. Little Owl

    Little Owl

We finally left Abbey Farm and set off back home for dinner - however, Peter wasn't finished with me yet and on a quiet back country lane found me a Little Owl that I could properly look at. High up on a telegraph pole. Down went the window and out came the camera.... click, click, click then...
  19. Egyptian Goose

    Egyptian Goose

There's supposed to be loads of these in East Anglia now, but I didn't come across all that many of them, and never got close to any. These were pretty distant way across the field and the light was beginning to go as it was after 7pm by now; so it's a huge crop.
  20. Marsh Tit

    Marsh Tit

... sorry... just had to let you see another of these gorgeous little guys before I finish that set; hope you don't mind too much.
  21. Egyptian Geese

    Egyptian Geese

.... with a friendly Tufted Duck. I didn't see these two arrive, they were just suddenly there, preening away quite the thing. Away at the far end of the water, so a big crop. They've opened a new hide since I was there, and I guess it would give closer views of this area of the pool.
  22. Mr Reed Bunting

    Mr Reed Bunting

In the bushes is the theme for today. Just clear of the nettles LOL Lovely birds, aren't they.
  23. Mrs Reed Bunting

    Mrs Reed Bunting

There weren't nearly so many lady Reed Buntings coming to the feeder as the males, so I was pleased to see this one. In fact, I've hardly ever seen a female at all over the years.
  24. Mr Reed Bunting

    Mr Reed Bunting

Back at the Whitely hide, couldn't keep away LOL. This handsome chap was the first to show on the feeder table. I settled down for a couple of hours watching.
  25. Handsome chap

    Handsome chap

I just couldn't stop taking pictures of these guys and this one looked wonderful sitting in the newly emerging leaves... a real bonus to get the colourful Chaffinches in the background LOL
