My first bc this year. Singing, bathing, feeding and waiting for a lady to arrive. As you can see, he is already prepared for her.

Another shot of the male bird which was here in April and May, and which could be heard singing loudly several days before it showed itself for the camera. Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding!

I'm not a hundred per cent happy with this, for obvious reasons (sad face). The bird wasn't very near, so even with the lens wide open at f/5.6, there wasn't enough depth of field to throw the twig behind its head out of focus. Most of the time It's easy enough to remove unwanted parts of an...

Thanks to everyone for the Carrion Crow comments and reactions. I'm uploading this Blackcap while my laptop still works after a fashion - after each upload, it freezes (the computer, not the bird), has to be forcibly shut down, and restarted. But enough of that! The Blackcap still warbles...

There was more Blackcap activity here this evening, with at least two birds present, including this male. I don't know if there's suitable nesting habitat around here, but I'll be keeping a lookout for juvs. Thank you for your comments on my pictures, stay safe and well, and good birding! John

    Eurasian Blackcap

Nearly every day since 6 March, a Blackcap has been singing loudly from cover at the rear of my block (where it's often difficult or impossible to actually see the various species I hear). Long story short: on Sunday this male Blackcap finally showed itself for the first time. Most Blackcaps...

Black haired spirit of the wood.

There were plenty of blackcaps singing during that visit. Unfortunately they tended to stay in the shadows. I like its scientific name. Sylvia means "spirit of the wood" and atricapilla means "black haired".

    Eurasian Blackcap (male)

I was sure I'd already posted this, but apparently not. It remains the only warbler I've seen this year. I was alerted by hearing its song through the open lounge window. I dashed there, and after I'd followed movement in the foliage for a couple of minutes, the bird finally came into view for...
