    Burrowing owl at local park (Brian Piccollo). Even though this a local sport park they have a wonderful policy of protecting (roping off their burrows) these beauties even if it shuts down one of the playing fields.

    those long legs are sometimes actually used to run down small prey, like crickets, on the ground. Sadly, although I've seen it, I've never gotten a pure shot of that occurrence.

    Taken using a very cheap compact camera - remaining very very still and lightly tapping the camera the owl became very inquisitive and slowly started to approach me. It was fabulous looking through the viewfinder at his expressions :)
