  1. Black Guillemot

    Black Guillemot

Arriving in Oban and finding our apartment up on the 3rd floor (4th floor as the Americans would say;))... very nice and a super view too. After that I had to go to the supermarket for immediate overnight supplies. Then I had a few hours to kill till my brother and Glen arrived on the late...
  2. Redstart

    Redstart

Redstart in forest within Argyll, Scotland.
  3. Growing Up

    Growing Up

After messing about looking at that rock and having a cup of coffee, my sister followed me to Kilmichael Glen as that was the way I was returning home, (she was doing her own meander round back to Ardrishaig for the night). This glen is a delight, after leaving the village there's hardly a car...
  4. Pretty roads

    Pretty roads

Another West Coast feature of the early summer is the rhododendrons. These shrubs were originally planted by the Victorians but they've got out of control now and although pretty at this time of year they're inhibiting the growth of native plants. Measures are now being taken to eradicate...
  5. The look out post

    The look out post

A gull sitting on a cottage roof in Crinan was the only bird close enough to film with my wee camera. I can't actually believe I've not already got a picture of one in my gallery - have now though LOL.
  6. Crinan Harbour

    Crinan Harbour

After Loch Sween we re-visited Crinan, the village and harbour at the end of the Crinan Canal. This day it was full of yachts and what a sight they were. It's a beautiful setting with an island providing some shelter from the westerly winds and the high craggy hills all round.
  7. Loch Sween

    Loch Sween

This is still the place where we took the photos of the Gannet and Meadow Pipit, but this is the view we'd stopped for, looking to the end of Loch Sween and over to the Isle of Jura. Castle Sween, which had been built in the 1100's to protect the area, is behind us. I really like the light in...
  8. Meadow Pipit

    Meadow Pipit

We had quite a busy time at that spot, for after we'd taken the Gannet pictures in comes a Meadow Pipit which sat in the grass for a few minutes - I don't usually get the chance to take a picture of them. Another big crop though.
  9. Resting Gannet

    Resting Gannet

After the Sandpiper and Wagtail, we moved further down Loch Sween and stopped to look back at Castle Sween. While I was looking around and taking pics of the castle my sister called me and said "What's that, it's not a Gannet is it?". Now the day before she said how impressed she'd...
  10. Sandpiper

    Sandpiper

My sister was quite impressed... I heard a bird calling and identified it before we could see it! There were two of these flying around the lochside, the first we'd seen, but saw several more over the next few days. This is the first decent picture I've ever managed of one.
  11. Tiptoe through the ... Irises

    Tiptoe through the ... Irises

The beginning of June just seems to miss the peak Bluebell and Iris seasons - too late for the one and too early for the other. A real feature of the west coast in summer are the extensive beds of flag irises beside the lochs, or anywhere damp. This small bed was beside Loch Sween, where we...
