    That's fantastic David, thanks!

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

I think this is a huge mistake. eBird/Clements moved in their latest update Sulawesi Thrush into Turdus based on Reeve et al., but also used their tree to rearrange Turdus. IOC now uncritically copies that rearrangement and my fear is that AviList will do that as well. Reeve et al. specifically...

Actually, the heron was there, but I left it out in the list, focusing on differences IOC vs eBIrd/Clements and this one is new to both. The tanager was initially noted as status quo on Avibase (or a lump of BLI/HBW:s split if you will), but that has changed after the SACC decision!

not Greater Hoopoe-lark -- or I am being difficult

I first thought ”no way” when Long-billed Pipit was first suggested, but now I’m convinced! Lack of mustachios stripe for instance.

Yet another thread on eponyms... But this one might actually be fun!

Ah, I thought it referred to the earth type (fine-grained sand). Heath not very fitting for the habitat though.

Yet another thread on eponyms... But this one might actually be fun!

Love this thread! Apologies for a lengthy post, but here are my takes on the species mentioned up to now. Quite a few lean heavily towards English translations of the names in Swedish (marked with *) +Steller’s Eider - Painted Eider (love this, few birds are as painted as a male Steller's...

Very interesting! Maybe I'm daft, but where's the actual readable tree they say they present?

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

These are all not lumped by the WGAC, there's a misunderstanding. As per the original list I posted, of the above mentioned, only the following appear to be lumped vs present IOC (or used to be, since the WGAC standpoints have disappeared from AviBase): Anas carolinensis Aulacorhynchus wagleri...

Yet another thread on eponyms... But this one might actually be fun!

I love this initiative! Eagerly waiting for your posts. In The Swedish Taxonomiic Committee, we've been engaged in a similar project of changing eponyms in Swedish to more descriptive names for a while, just a few left now. For my part, I think some of the names we've come up with are quite...

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

The thrush and the forest robin are also split by WGAC, so IOC splits are surely announced shortly. The Seram Masked Owl is lumped by WGAC, in Australian Masked, as are Manus and Moluccan Masked Owls, which means further lumps are expected.

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

Apologies for a lengthy post, but I thought I'd share the available WGAC stance, based on notes per each species in Avibase, dated July 7th, the latest version available. I admit some changes might have been made since. For instance, multiple SACC proposals have subsequently been passed...

Actually, the Red Grouse still remains unsplit in the final version! A bit weird, but I guess they'll reconcile that later on.
