Princeton University Press' website says it will be available as an eBook, which I think means a PDF, on August 20.

Australian field guides - a bit of a review.

Since no one else has replied, I'll add a comment. I think they've done an excellent job on the concise edition, in terms of making it very small but still maintaining large illustrations. It includes all the species they regard as residents or at least annual visitors to Australia, which I...

    Best bird guides by region...Australasia?

I just messaged one of the authors and he's not aware of anything having been updated! I don't disagree with you about market saturation. I guess it's always possible to put together a new photo guide relatively quickly and cheaply, but it's hard to imagine anyone doing a new set of plates for...

That looks like the revision that was published in Australia back in 2019 finally being made available by other publishers outside Australia.

    Directional mic for iPhone?

Coming rather late to this, I've had a Rode VideoMic Me for a while. I use it with an extender to get around the issue with phone cases. I can't claim to have done much in the way of rigorous comparisons. Overall I'd say the main advantage compared to going without an external mic is from...

    Best bird guides by region...Australasia?

If you have a look inside the cover of the current Australian Bird Guide you will see it too is divided up into marine and coastal, freshwater and land birds sections. So I am not sure anything is changing. And this is exactly the order which was praised in an earlier post as "Finally a...

Sticky thread for best birding apps

A new Australian bird calls app has been published for both iOS and Android. It's called Stewart Australian Bird Calls. Recordings are by Dave Stewart, who also provided the calls on the Morecombe Australian app. However this is a more comprehensive collection, with the aim of including as...

Gulls of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East: An Identification Guide

Princeton's website says there will be an eBook version (which usually means pdf and often ePub as well), but not until April 2022.

Australian field guides - a bit of a review.

Nothing major. Typos corrected and a couple of extra images added (a tern in flight I think - not sure if there are others) or corrected where they had been printed under the wrong species first time around (a prion head and an albatross in flight from memory).

Are your copies of Handbook of Birds of the World deteriorating with age?

I am curious whether anyone else has trouble with copies of Handbook of the Birds of the World deteriorating with age more than other books? A number of my volumes, mainly from the middle of the series (about vol 4 – vol 9) now have bad stains, particularly on the end papers and first and last...

Birds of Cuba, a photographic guide

Looks like your notice was successful Jim, that page isn't there any more. Still a bit mystified by the whole thing, as Wikipedia says it's a well established publishing company and that's the address of its official website.

Birds of Cuba, a photographic guide

Interesting - I based that comment on it appearing to be on a real publishing company's website. Do you mean they have shared it in a way they weren't licenced to do?
