    Loose tripod legs

Hi Jason, If it's a Gitzo tripod (which it very much looks like) you need to tighten one end (side) of the lock using an Allen key whilst holding the other one still with another Allen key, so that it doesn't rotate whilst you're tightening. PM me if you need further details. Stu

Warbler - Montreal Botanical Gardens, Canada 3.10.2024

Surely the facial pattern, long supercilium and bill length/shape are better for Palm. Orange-crowned has a spike-like bill whereas the bill of this bird appears to be slightly tapered. Stu

ID help on Rail - Bolivar Peninsula, Texas, USA

Agree with Nartreb. Also the streaking on the upperparts is quite diffuse and not particularly well marked, another pro Clapper feature.

Possible Hanuman Plover. Yala, Sri Lanka. Nov 23

Attached are a couple of images of the best-marked 'white-headed' Kentish type Plovers we saw at Yala in November. Opinion sought on ID as Hanuman Plover C. a. seebohmi as the references to this species/sub-species I've located don't seem to help. Thanks in advance for your input. Stu

Espanola, Ontario, Canada - is this a yellow rumped warbler?

Hi, Your bird is an American Redstart. Note the orange tail with black terminal band. Black feathering around the face probably indicates first year male. Stu

    Unknown bird - Tanzania

Hi Marcus, Sounds very much like a Water Thick-knee, also known as Water Dikkop. I'm sure there are other options which have a similar rising then falling call, but off the top, can't think of it, and this is the only one which springs to mind. Hope this helps Stu

ID Help: Swift with white-rump, white chin

The dark forehead and gleaming white throat are pro House Swift. As others have said, not Antillean Palm Swift as that is extensively pale around the whole head and the underparts are largely pale. Tail is not squared as in Little Swift and lack of white on trailing edge seems to rule out...

Falcon sp. Masai Mara, Kenya. Nov 22

I would be very grateful of your opinions regarding this bird which until editing the pics just a moment ago I had completely forgotten about. This is heavily cropped, it was always distant, and not seen to fly so not a particularly helpful set of circumstances, could this be an Amur Falcon...

Large 2CY gull - Sabaki, Kenya

Hi, Probably for Lou, this bird was photographed flying past whilst we watched Sooty Gulls in Kenya in mid November. My initial thought is 1w Heuglin's but I would very much appreciate confirmation, the very white headed appearance is very Caspian-like so wanted to make sure either way. Thanks...

request advice which warbler species North America

Yes, definitely a Pine Warbler, as others have said. The white undertail and double wing bars combined with a substantial bill are all good ID features. Time of year also key as Pine is resident whereas most migrant warblers have not yet started moving north. Stu

TROPICBIRD ID REQUESTED - SPOTTED 100NM SOUTH OF DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

The partially translucent underwing pattern looks good for White-tailed as does the golden-toned tail feathers. The bill looks quite slim so another pro White-tailed feature. I've attached a pic taken off St Lucia which shows both species together with the White-tailed at the top of the image. Stu
