    Phone adapter opinion please

I've just added the Scope Cam set up with a magnetic plate. Expensive but so far I'm please and I like that I could add to my current phone case with out any "stick-outs". I have an Otter case and I was able to cut in the attachment plate flush with the rubberized cover. Good luck.

Upgrade 128 RC head or no?

Thanks everyone. I found a Gitzo GHF2W on Amazon Japan for $280 US and will give that a go. They still had a few if anyone is looking for a decent deal.

Upgrade 128 RC head or no?

Hi all, Posted this in another thread, but figured a new thread might be more helpful. I recently purchased a TSN-883 that upgrades an older pentax scope that's similar in size to the 883. I've also found a nice deal on a Gitzo mountaineer tripod (older GT2530) that will replace manfrotto 190...

    Manfrotto 190GOA4 + 128RC compatibility with Kowa 883, plus backpack/transport question

Hi all, I'm in a similar situation... recently purchased a TSN-883 that upgrades an older pentax scope. I've also found a nice deal on a Gitzo mountaineer tripod (older GT2530) that will replace manfrotto 190 tripod. I'm 6'0" and the 190 was always a bit low and not quite stiff enough...

Eyepiece Rainguard for Leica 8x32 BN?

Hello all, Sadly, I lost the eyepiece rainguard for my lecia 8x32 BNs. Does anyone know of a good US source for a replacement. I did call Leica US and they want $40 for a new one (shipped at least...). Thanks in advance. Cheers, Chris C.

    Nikon LXL 8x32 price

I'm pretty sure I ordered my trinovid bn's from this source. Service was fast and the price was great ($800 w/ one year warranty).

Zeiss in Wal-Mart. Steiner in Sam's.

Ahh, i agree that at least some of the appeal of high-end bins is mystique. However, I feel compelled to point out that shopping at wal mart and the like makes it difficult for small companies, especially those focused on high quality products, to compete. I've seen the demise of makers of...

    My EII arrived

Thank you for the insights Henry. I've finally had a chance to compare both bins side-by-side outside and under various light conditions. The short story is that the 10x35's are easily the optical equal of the 8x32 trinovids, despite a smaller exit pupil and higher magnification. They are...

    Which would you choose?

I should mention I just sold a Nikon 10x42 Venturer/LX and bought a Leica Ultravid 8x42, but the only reason I did so is because the Ultravid was basically NIB and was $900.00. The Nikons were right on par optically, but were heavier; however, the LXL solves that problem.... Buster, Curious...

    My EII arrived

My E arrived My 10x35 e arrived that I bought off astromart, as new in the box including a 25 year warranty card. My initial impressions are favorable--nearly as bright as the trinovid 8x32 bns, not quite as contrasty, just barely enough e.r. for me. The completely unsexy packaging will suit...

    My EII arrived

Hello all, Thanks all for the feedback on the nikon e2 and se in response to my "not enlightened..." post. I've been tempted by the 10x35 e2 for a while and even called eagle optics (they had only 4 left a couple of weeks ago), but just couldn't justify spending >$300 right now for what will...

LNIB Leica Ultravid Br 8x42 On Astromart!

Its a great astronomy site similar to BF. There's a classified section where I've successfully bought and sold scopes, e.p.s and accessories. Its hosted by anacortes, but seems more or less independent. Cheers, C

    Eyeglasses and zooms

I've often hoped that a scope designer would make either a scope or an eyepiece that had a 2.5x barlow in it with a 24x wide field that changed to a 60x wide field with the flip of a button. This, in my mind would be the best of both worlds-- all the advantages of fixed with the speedy...

Lens Covers - Do You Use Them?

I use the eyepiece cover quite a lot to keep off dust, rain, coffee, crumbs, etc. off. Since getting leica bn's, which did not come with covers, I bought a pair of flip up rifle scope covers, but don't much like them. Rather, I found a good case and placed a piece of scrap wood in the bottom...

Not enlightened...10x Porros: Nikon se, e2 or ?...

My understanding is "yes" to both. The E2 is an update of the classic E's and both have been discontinued. FYI, there's a useful review of the e2's on the bvd site.

    Field Curvature and Astigmatism

Henry et al., Thank you for an excellent and informative string of posts--I've learned much and have enjoy the unbiased (to my reading) evaluations. For me, all of this discussion begs the question of why? I generally understand the sources of both astigmatism and field curvature, but is...

Not enlightened...10x Porros: Nikon se, e2 or ?...

Thanks all for the insights and good advice. I'll most likely go with the E2's because I'm still trying to raise the cash, but if I come across a deal on the SE's between now and then, I may spring for them :) BTW, I occasionally lead field trips and one reason for purchasing these is the...

Better View Desired - Pentax 65mm review

Yes, I briefly owned the 5000 uwa in the two shortest focal lengths (4.6 and 6.3? mm). I bought them as part of a package deal with no intent on keeping them. I did try them both out in the pf-80a before selling them, though. Optically, they were good, especially given the high magnification...

Better View Desired - Pentax 65mm review

My experience with the SMC was that the effective e.r. dipped to about 11 or 12 mm in the middle. Another negative aspect of the SMC 8-24 mm zoom for me was that the eye piece has a very large diameter and I found that I was constantly bumping my nose into the side of the eyepiece to view the...

Hello all, The Buddha says that one can't acheive happiness until one can break the cycle of attainment and disatisfaction  ...I've still got the bug, I'm afraid. Oh well. In October, I bought a pair of 8x32 trinovid bns, which are fantastically small and great optically and I'm...

    Tripod padding for bogen legs?

Hello all, I've used a bogen 3221W 'wilderness' tripod for several years with the foam padding covering the upper parts of the legs. I've gotten in the habitat of carrying the whole lot on my shoulder with the legs extended, which is reasonbly comfortable and makes for quick scope work...

    Early bird memories?

Hello all, An interest in birds in some seems to be innate, while others get hooked by a watershed sighting later in life. What are your early 'significant' sightings? Mine? Ivory-billed woodpecker. Or so I thought--I was about 6, living in coastal Mississippi in the mid-70's. Our house...
