Just killed a barn owl 😢

On the way home right near home the storm must have thrown it into the car, only 100 yards from home😢 Really shook up beautiful bird, I got out but could hardly stand up in the wind, it must have been hungry to hunt in that, it had stopped raining as they don’t like hunting in the wet.

    Binocular recommendations for wet conditions

Then there’s the other end of the scale, I had a cheap pair from a charity shop for almost 30 years, cost a fiver, they did the job.

    Binocular recommendations for wet conditions

You have to be really thorough and experienced to tell the difference between quality pairs of binoculars, I certainly can’t, any good pair will do the job and suffice for me.

Many thanks for that information, very useful. I will look into getting a decent one, the S2 is a lovely scope but its the tripod that lets everything down.

    Recommend a decent tripod?

One that actually works. This Vanguard I have just got which was thrown in free with the scope is a pile of trash, you locate a bird/mammal etc and lock it, then it just moves, its stable enough on the ground but the head(most important part) is garbage. Not fit for purpose, no wonder it was...

    Duck, Hampshire UK

No problem, each to is own, that's why I have never kept a list. I just like looking at and trying to identify birds.

    Duck, Hampshire UK

Yes I understand that's where the Scoter has been and is still around there but so will be numerous other birds that could be in the photograph. You can surely only put it on a list if its a definite, confirmed sighting, which is impossible from the photograph.

    Duck, Hampshire UK

Surely you cant put that on your list from just that photo alone, it could be any number of birds.
