A bit of Hen harrier action!

Cheers guys. I really hope they will become a regular part of the English moors and hills sooner rather than later. I am really lucky where i am and counted seven harriers and five other raptors within four miles of my house a couple of days ago....what a difference it makes not to have any...

A bit of Hen harrier action!

I took this film this afternoon, here is a a pair of Hen harriers engaged in trying to flush birds out of some willow scrub. This is a breeding pair and there is a lot interaction between them as they go about the task. Im afraid that its not the greatest quality but I thought folks might like...

How to lure raptors to the ground

I have asked if any of the members here ken if its legal to be feeding raptors in order to lure them in because it strikes me that it is not and doubly so at this time of year. To say others are doing it so it must be ok don’t really cut it for me as I would imagine that the local authority...

    Better than a small tripod

I saw the same idea the otherday in a photography mag, They had a string with a loop for the foot and fixed under the camera...instant monopod. The idea of using it on bins is a cracker!! I think i will give it a go and see what like! I dont know about the chain though. I have some nylon so i...

Will the earthquake in Japan make Binocular supplies dwindle?

I think it is a legitimate question for someone so involved in the optics forums to ask. The answer is yes its probably going to cause a bit of a dent. Cannon and Nikon have addressed the situation on their web sites but i don’t really see the point in attempts to get the thread closed down. Its...

    Thinking about a Scope

A mate of mine has just bought a OLIVON T64 16-48x64 Spotting Scope as his first birding scope. It seems fine enough for the money. The image is sharp enough and the it gathers far more light than a 50mm scope. He found it brand new for about £139 delivered. If you had one of these i would say...

    Opiticron ES 80 GA ED

Keep the eyepiece covered in the rain and you shouldnt go wrong. The ES is an exellent scope with a quality view and you should see a pleasing improvment as soon as you get going. I havent even see the Avian so cant really comment on it tho!
