    SX40 Super Zoom

Thank you for saying so Roy and thanks for all your help and advice in getting me there! Just for the record, I now prefer an 'Av' set up rather than 'Tv' and use permanent 2.0x 'converter' (I can always just wind the zoom back if it's too much). Also 1/3 exposure comp unless the light is...

    SX40 Super Zoom

I've just done a quick search and DPP is still available as is the patch. If you search for my post on this subject within this thread you should be up and running again in no time. AndyM

    SX40 Super Zoom

I do keep wondering whether to make the move over to the SX50 just for the sake of the increased focal length. In the meantime I've been shooting exclusively of late using the 2.0x 'converter' and to be honest, I can't really see much difference in IQ with or without it. AndyM

    Canon SX50 Specs

Okay. I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but in this instance I would have tried focussing (repeatedly) on the area shown in the first image - away from the twigs in the foreground that contrast starkly with the sky. Those twigs in the foreground are nicely focussed. If you'd...

    SX40 Super Zoom

I seriously thought that the SX40 might disappear up its own tripod mount with the release of the '50' so it's really pleasing to see what all you SX40 owners have been getting up to! AndyM.

...and a few more from over the cold & snowy weekend. No prize winners as usual but not too bad I suppose when you consider the dull, grey uninspiring shooting conditions. I must admit, I'm still enjoying this camera and it continues to produce results that keep me amused which I suppose is...

Neil, Any particular reason why you decided to take the SX40 on your travels instead of the SX50? AndyM

    Canon SX50 Specs

It is very interesting indeed! Especially as I often take a series of shots at full zoom and THEN simply move up through the teleconverter without a second thought for changing the settings! |:$|

    Canon SX50 Specs

Okay. I'm talking SX40 here and assumed the same as the SX50 but could be different I suppose. That said, it's also possible that the shooting situation that you found yourself in did not necessitate an increase in ISO (the light looks pretty good without a drastic difference between the two...

    Canon SX50 Specs

Not sure if you've mentioned this before Roy. I know you've messed about with this and you may have already come across it. I've just taken a few rough indoor shots on a tripod into a brightly lit kitchen to see how things would turn out across full zoom, 1.5x & 2.0x fixed on the same...

    SX40 Super Zoom

A real nice shot considering the circumstances! A couple more examples. The Starling, from about 3m (unfortunately with Avian Pox and the Stonechat from about 20m - cropped to about as far as I could go without it all turning nasty.. AndyM

    Canon SX50 Specs

I try to use it whenever I can. Sure, you more often than not end up with with a string of near identical shots but you'll always find one that is far better than all the others. A bird on a branch on a windy day is sure to be blown in and out of focus and in extreme cases, in and out of view...
