Distribution

South-east Asia and Australasia: found in Indonesia
Australasia: Papua New Guinea and Melanesia

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • M. r. rufocrissalis:
  • Sepik Mountains and central mountain ranges of New Guinea
  • M. r. thomasi:
  • Southern slopes of the eastern highlands of New Guinea

Habitat

Montane forests at lower and middle levels. Also gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of insects, nectar and fruit.
