Southeast Asia: found in Indonesia, Papuan Islands
Australasia: Papua New Guinea, Timor Island, Melanesia, Solomon Islands
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 9 subspecies[1]:
- P. s. speciosus: Numfor, Biak and Yapen islands
- P. s. johannis: Admiralty Islands, St. Matthias Group and New Hanover
- P. s. meyeri: New Britain and satellite islands
- P. s. neumanni: Nissan Island (west Solomon Islands)
- P. s. bistictus: Solomon Islands (Bougainville and Buka)
- P. s. vulcanorum: South-western Solomon Islands
- P. s. ocularis: Guadalcanal (south-eastern Solomon Islands)
- P. s. ambiguus: Malaita Island (eastern Solomon Islands)
- P. s. solomonensis: Solomon Islands (Makira and Ugi)
Habitat
Moist lowland forests on smaller outlier islands.
Behaviour
Basically frugivorous. but little detail is known.
