Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Australia (occurs only in Queensland)
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 10 subspecies[1]:
- T. l. leucops: North-western New Guinea (mountains of Vogelkop Peninsula)
- T. l. mayri: New Guinea (Wandammen and Weyland mountains)
- T. l. nigroorbitalis: New Guinea (Nassau and Snow mountains)
- T. l. heurni: New Guinea (Weyland Mts. and upper Mamberano River)
- T. l. nigriceps: New Guinea (Victor Emanuel and Snow mountains)
- T. l. melanogenys: Northern New Guinea (Cyclops Mountains to Aicora River)
- T. l. wahgiensis: Mountains of eastern New Guinea
- T. l. albifacies: Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea
- T. l. auricularis: Lowlands of southern New Guinea (Orimo River region)
- T. l. albigularis: Coastal north-eastern Queensland (Cape York to McIlwraith Range)
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and montanes. Mainly oak and beech forests in New Guinea.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists mostly of insects and small arthropods, supplemented by seeds.
