Trachyphonus goffinii

Identification

23–24 cm (9-9½ in)

  • Yellow bill
  • Pinkish throat
  • Yellow belly
  • Black facial skin
  • Red eye

Variation

Subspecies togoensis differ in having much more red on the face, cheeks, and forecrown, and in being more streaked than spotted on the breast.

Distribution

Western Africa: Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and south-western Nigeria; (no overlap in range with Eastern Yellow-billed Barbet)

Taxonomy

Western Yellow-billed Barbet and Eastern Yellow-billed Barbet were formerly considered one species with the name of Yellow-billed Barbet.
