Identification

A small short-billed sunbird. Male has violet upperparts, head and throat; appears blackish in poor light. Female is brown above, with a conspicuous white eye-stripe; belly is yellow (not whitish, as in female Eastern Violet-backed Sunbird) and tail is violet (not blue).
