- Pogoniulus coryphaeus
Identification
Length 10 cm.
Upper parts mainly black with a broad yellow strip from the crown to the rump, a yellow wing bar and yellow edging on the wing feathers. It has a white moustache stripe and grey-olive underparts.
Distribution
Three separate montane populations: The moutains west-central Cameroon and adjascent Nigeria; the mountains of extreme eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and adjascent Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania; and the escarpment of western Angola.
Taxonomy
Three subspecies are recognized:[1]
- P. c. coryphaeus - Eastern Nigeria and adjacent southwestern Cameroon
- P. c. hildamariae - Eastern Zaire, southwestern Uganda and western Rwanda
- P. c. angolensis - West-central Angola
Habitat
Montane forest and forest edge.
