Identification
50cm (19¾ in), including a long tail.
- Grey upperparts with brown spots
- Brown head with silver streaks
- Dark brown crown, lores , chin, throat and cheeks
- Erectile nuchal crest
- White underparts heavily streaked with brown
- Bright yellow bill
- White wing bar shows in flight.
Sexes are identical
Immature birds have a black woolly head without silver streaking.
Distribution
West Africa: found in acacia savanna of Senegambia to Central African Republic and western Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Open woodland, savanna and cultivated areas.
Behaviour
They construct a platform nest in a tree. The clutch contains 2-3 eggs.
Diet
Their diet consists of a variety of fruits, such as figs, mangoes, guavas, sapotillas, oil-palm fruits and dates.
