Identification
Extinct. It was hunted and eaten to extinction after the Japanese forces who occupied the island in 1941.
22 cm. Dark grey brown upperparts, crown, lores and cheeks, ash brown underparts with narrow white bars on the belly, breast, and flanks, white upper throat and the chin, grey superciliary rom the chin over the top of the eyes to the bill, brown bill, legs and feet.
Distribution
Formerly Wake Island, Pacific Ocean (prior to World War II).
Taxonomy
A monotypic species.
Habitat
Scrubland.
Behaviour
The diet included molluscs, insects and worms.
