Identification
27cm. Purple/blue wide band around neck, dark purple abdomen to undertail coverts, soft purple scapulars tipped in black, red greater wing coverts and flight feathers with wide black tips, red underwing coverts and undersides of flight feathers, with black tips on primaries, tail purple/red, bill orange/brown, eye orange.
Distribution
Taxonomy
Three subspecies are recognized [1]. obiensis and squamata may be split as "Scaled Lory"
- E.s. riciniata - North Moluccas and Widi Island
- E.s. obiensis: "Scaled Lory". North Moluccas (Obi and Bisa)
- E.s. squamata: "Scaled Lory". West Papuan islands and Schildpad Island
Habitat
Moist lowland forests and mangrove forests.
