- Zimmerius petersi
Identification
- Upperside is plain olive-green.
- Wings and tail upperside is darker but with green edges to flight feathers, tail feathers and greater coverts (notice: not on end of coverts so no wing bars).
- Head has a dark grey crown, and black auriculars connecting through an eye-stripe with bill.
- Below the eye is a white half circle; the corresponding upper half circle is sometimes visible as part of the much more extensive white supercilium.
- Underside is pale white to yellowish, mostly with visible but diffuse grey striping especially in upper breast.
- Black bill is relatively short and rounded.
Similar species
Wing pattern should make this tyrannulet unique within its range.
Distribution
Coastal cordillera of northern Venezuela (southern Lara east to Miranda).
Taxonomy
This is one of the daughter species from the former Paltry Tyrannulet
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Forest to open areas as long as there are some trees and scrub
Behaviour
Predominantly found in mid to upper canopy where it eats fruit (presumably misteltoe is dominant) as well as insects caught both gleaning and sallying.
Vocalisation
During daytime gives a relatively long, plain wistle.
