- Slate grey crown
- Pale lores
- White or buffy submoustachial stripe
Variations
The underparts range from ranging from finely barred to streaked over the various subspecies.
Distribution
South America: found in Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.

There are 5 subspecies[1]:
- G. v. cinereiceps:
- G. v. varia:
- The Guianas and Brazil north of River Amazon (west from lower River Napo)
- G. v. distincta:
- Brazil south of River Amazon (River Madeira to River Tapajós, south to Mato Grosso)
- G. v. intercedens:
- East Brazil (Pernambuco and southern Bahia to south-eastern Minas Gerais)
- G. v. imperator:
Habitat
Humid forests and mature secondary woodlands. Occasionally seen at dawn in more open areas.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of earthworms and invertebrates such as spiders, cockroaches, grasshoppers, cockroaches and centipedes.
