Distribution
Asia: found in Russia, Siberia, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, Tibet, Korea (North & South) and Japan.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 5 subspecies[1]:
- C. s. sibiricus:
- C. s. ussuriensis:
- Central Manchuria to Northern Korea; winters to north-eastern China and South Korea
- C. s. sanguinolentus:
- Sakhalin, southern Kuril Islands and Hokkaido; winters to southern Japanese islands
- C. s. lepidus:
- Western China (south-eastern Gansu and southern Shaanxi)
- C. s. henrici:
- Mountains of western China (south-eastern Tibet to western Sichuan and northern Yunnan)
Formerly included in genus Uragus.
