Collocalia sumbawae

Identification

8-9 cm.

  • mantle and wings dark with blue-green gloss
  • throat medium dusky grey
  • underparts from chest to undertail coverts white
  • tail black with white spots (often not visible)

Distribution

Western Lesser Sundas, Indonesia.

Taxonomy

Formerly included in Glossy Swiftlet. Reference [2] notes that the two subspecies are deeply divergent and suggests elevation of sumbae as "Sumba Swiftlet".

Subspecies

Clements recognises the following subspecies:

  • C. s. sumbawae: Western Lesser Sundas (Sumbawa; population on Flores and Besar possibly also this subspecies)
  • C. s. sumbae: Western Lesser Sundas (Sumba)
