Central America: found only in Mexico.

Subspecies
There are 2 subspecies
- N. m. mcleodii:
- Western Mexico (Chihuahua and southern Sonora to Jalisco and Colima)
- N. m. rayi:
- Oak-pine woodlands of west-central Mexico (Guerrero)
Habitat
Dry forest, damp cloud forest, rocky slopes, wooded gullies, and overgrown fields.
Behaviour
Terrestrial.
