Identification

Black head, throat, back, bill and legs, brown eye.

Distribution

Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, south-eastern Angola, north-eastern Namibia, northern and eastern Botswana, northern and eastern South Africa and eSwatini.

Taxonomy

Melaniparus niger has three subspecies.
Formerly placed in genus Parus.

Habitat

Dry broadleaved woodland and dry savanna.

Behaviour

The diet includes invertebrates.

It nests in a tree or shrub and 1-6 white eggs are laid.
