Distribution

Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Taxonomy

Melipotes fumigatus has three subspecies:[1]

  • M. f. goliathi
  • Mountains of central New Guinea
  • M. f. fumigatus
  • Mountains of south-eastern New Guinea
  • M. f. kumawa
  • Extreme north-western New Guinea (Kumawa Mountains)

Habitat

Moist montanes.
