(Redirected from Sibia)

Genus: Heterophasia, Sibias

Description

This genus contains seven species of Sibias from southeast Asia. Sibias are rather slim, elegant, long-tailed and strikingly patterned Babblers with narrow pointed bills. They are gregarious, noisy and highly vocal.

Taxonomy

Heterophasia is a genus in the Family Leiothrichidae.
It was formerly included in the family Timaliidae.
The Handbook of the Birds of the World places the Sibias in three genera, Leioptila, Heterophasia and Malacias. Only the Long-tailed Sibia would remain in Heterphasia sensu strictu. Also there is no consensus yet about the taxonomic boundaries between the recent split Black-headed Sibia and Black-backed Sibia.
