Identification
12–13 cm (4¾-5 in)
- Rufous-brown upperparts and throat
- Black breast and mid-belly surrounded by white
- White supercilium
Female: white underparts with conspicuous dark streaks on the throat and breast
Distribution
South America: found in Suriname, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay
Taxonomy
Subspecies
- F. r. urubambae:
- Locally in foothills of eastern Peru (San Martín and Cusco)
- F. r. chapmani:
- F. r. rufa
Habitat
They can be found in a variety of habitats, including cerrado brushland. Observed in xerophytic scrub at around 270 m.
Behaviour
Diet
There is little information available. They feed on a variety of insects and are likely to include spiders too.
