Identification
Brown with paler, more yellowish-buff underparts and a rufous throat. Interscapular patch white in the male, cinnamon in the female. Broad eye-ring whitish-blue.
Distribution
North-eastern South America in southern Venezuela, the Guianas and north-eastern Brazil.
Taxonomy
Three rather similar subspecies are generally accepted, but may represent a clinal variation.
Habitat
Humid lowland forest; mainly Terra Firme.
Behaviour
Rarely away from army-ant (Eciton sp) swarms, where forages low for insects trying to escape. Typically in pairs or small groups.
